"HOMES"

Michigan is similar to an isthmus , except hardly narrow yet is surrounded by water on all sides. HOMES is a simple acronym for the water that surrounds us,  the Great Lakes of  Huron, Ontario, Michigan, Erie and Superior. These lakes represent the world's largest freshwater ecosystem.  These lakes provide drinking water for over 40 Million people. Maybe our state should be called the water belt or freshwater way.
